Jeri’s mother, who was a Blues singer with a radio program in the 1930’s, fostered her interest and love of music as a child. As a youth, she learned to play the guitar to accompany singing during gatherings of family and friends.
Retirement from the California Department of Education brought thoughts of rescuing the dormant guitar from the closet, and taking some lessons. Soon afterward she was introduced to the CMP program. She completed the MHTP course, did her Practicum at Greenhaven Eskaton and Kaiser South Hospital then received her certification in April 2015.
The healing power of music when played strategically according to each patient’s needs is a source of wonder to her. She has realized that playing for patients at their bedside is a perfect way to continue to grow musically and share music with others. Its rewards are many and often unexpected.
